Description

This Asian-Style Beef Pie recipe combines savory ground beef with a flavorful soy-ginger sauce, encased in crispy store-bought pastry squares. Easy to prepare and perfect for a quick meal, these pies are baked until golden and topped with sesame seeds for added texture and taste.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 250 g ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 teaspoons corn flour
  • 1/3 cup water

Pastry & Topping

  • 300 g store-bought pastry, cut into squares
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons sesame seeds (more or less to your liking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce and beef mixture: In a small bowl, combine corn flour, water, soy sauce, grated ginger, sugar, and sesame oil. Gradually add this sauce mixture to the ground beef and finely chopped onion, stirring continuously until the sauce is fully absorbed into the beef mixture. Add the sauce gradually to ensure even absorption.
  2. Assemble the pies: Cut the store-bought pastry into approximately 8cm squares. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture onto each square. Fold or cover with another pastry piece if desired, then crimp the edges using a fork to seal the pies securely. Arrange the sealed pies on baking paper.
  3. Add finishing touches: Brush the top of each pie with egg yolk to give a shiny golden finish when baked. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top according to your taste preference.
  4. Bake the pies: Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Bake the pies for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry turns golden brown and crispy.

Notes

  • Ensure the sauce is added gradually to the beef to prevent it from becoming too watery.
  • Use good quality store-bought pastry for best results or homemade pastry if preferred.
  • Adjust sesame seed quantity based on your liking for extra crunch and flavor.
  • Serve hot for the best taste and texture.
