Description
This rich and creamy Black Milkshake is a visually striking and deliciously indulgent treat made with black cocoa powder, vanilla ice cream, and a touch of maple syrup. Topped with homemade whipped cream and optional sprinkles, it's perfect for impressing guests or enjoying a decadent dessert at home.
Ingredients
For the Whipped Cream and Glass Rim
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (or whipping cream)
- black sanding sugar
- maple syrup (for brushing the rim)
For the Milkshake
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream (packed)
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup milk
- 3 tablespoons black cocoa powder (plus more if needed)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Whip the Cream: Add the heavy cream to a bowl. Begin whipping at medium speed, then increase to high as it thickens. Continue until stiff peaks form. Chill in the fridge while preparing the milkshake.
- Prepare the Glass Rim: Pour black sanding sugar into a shallow bowl. Brush maple syrup on the rim of the glass or dip it into maple syrup. Immediately dip the rim into the sanding sugar and tap off excess. Freeze the glass for a few minutes to help the sugar stick.
- Make the Milkshake: In a blender, combine vanilla ice cream, milk, black cocoa powder, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth with no lumps. Adjust thickness by adding more milk if needed. Taste and add additional black cocoa powder for a deeper color and flavor if desired.
- Assemble and Serve: Pour the milkshake into the prepared glass. Top with the whipped cream and add sprinkles if using. Serve immediately.
Notes
- The milkshake may appear dark grey initially but darkens close to black as it sits.
- Adjust the milk quantity to achieve your preferred milkshake thickness.
- Use packed vanilla ice cream for best texture and flavor.
- Chill the glass rim in the freezer to better adhere the sugar.
