Description

This Chicken Alfredo Casserole is a creamy, comforting dish that transforms classic chicken Alfredo into a hearty baked meal. Easy to prepare and full of cheesy goodness, it's perfect for family dinners and enjoyed by all ages, including toddlers.

Ingredients

Chicken and Pasta

  • 3 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 1 (8 ounce) package penne pasta

Sauce and Seasoning

  • ½ (16 ounce) jar Alfredo sauce
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

Cheeses

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) to prepare for baking the casserole later.
  2. Cook Chicken: Place the chicken breasts in a pot and cover them with water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer until the chicken is fully cooked through and no longer pink in the center, about 15 minutes. Once done, drain and cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Cook Pasta: While the chicken is cooking, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook for about 11 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender but still firm to the bite. Drain the pasta once cooked.
  4. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked chicken pieces, cooked penne, Alfredo sauce, ½ of the shredded mozzarella cheese, milk, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix all ingredients until well combined.
  5. Assemble Casserole: Pour the mixture into a 1 ½-quart casserole dish, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese evenly over the top, followed by the shredded Cheddar cheese to create a rich cheesy layer.
  6. Bake: Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden on top.

Notes

  • You can substitute penne for other medium pasta types like ziti or large elbow macaroni.
  • If you have leftover Alfredo sauce, swirl the milk inside the jar to get every bit out.
  • Ensure the chicken is completely cooked before combining to keep the dish safe and flavorful.
  • Use freshly shredded cheeses for the best melting and flavor.
