Description

A quick and flavorful one-pan meal featuring tender chicken sausage, fresh broccoli, and creamy Parmesan-infused orzo, all cooked together in a skillet for a satisfying dinner in just 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 12 oz package chicken sausage, sliced into half moons

Vegetables

  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic

Pantry

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup uncooked orzo
  • 2 1/3 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare sausage: Slice the chicken sausage into half moons for even cooking and bite-sized pieces.
  2. Brown the sausage: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the sausage slices and brown on each side for about two minutes until they develop a nice golden crust.
  3. Add vegetables and orzo: Stir in the minced garlic and broccoli florets, cooking together for a few minutes. Then add the uncooked orzo and chicken broth, stirring well to scrape any flavorful bits off the bottom of the pan.
  4. Simmer and cook orzo: Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally until the orzo is tender and has absorbed most of the broth.
  5. Finish with cheese: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until it melts into the dish, adding creaminess and flavor. Serve hot and enjoy your hearty skillet meal!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use a smoked chicken sausage variety.
  • You can substitute broccoli with other veggies like spinach or bell peppers if desired.
  • To make it gluten-free, swap orzo with a gluten-free pasta alternative.
  • Keep an eye on the broth while simmering to avoid burning or drying out.
  • This dish reheats well and makes great leftovers for lunch.
