Description

This luxurious Creamy Truffled Mushroom Gnocchi recipe combines pillowy gnocchi with a rich mushroom and truffle butter sauce, finished with fresh thyme and heavy cream for a decadent, comforting meal. Perfect for an elegant dinner or a special occasion, it delivers deep earthy flavors with a smooth, creamy texture.

Ingredients

Gnocchi

  • 1 pound gnocchi

Sauce

  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms (gourmet mix, whole)
  • 6 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon thyme, stems removed (fresh or dried)
  • 6 tablespoons truffle butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Cook the Gnocchi: In a large stockpot, bring generously salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to the package instructions until they float to the surface and are tender. Drain the gnocchi and set aside if the sauce is not yet ready.
  2. Heat Butter and Oil: In a non-stick pan, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil and 3 tablespoons truffle butter over medium heat until the butter melts and the mixture is glistening.
  3. Sauté Shallot and Thyme: Add the minced shallot and 1 tablespoon thyme to the pan. Stir with a wooden spoon and cook on medium heat for about 3 minutes until the shallot is fragrant and softened.
  4. Add Mushrooms and Remaining Butter: Add the whole mushrooms along with the remaining 3 tablespoons of truffle butter to the pan. Avoid overcrowding, letting the mushrooms cook undisturbed for about a minute before stirring to allow browning.
  5. Season and Continue Cooking Mushrooms: Sprinkle in 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper and 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt. Sauté the mushrooms for about 5 minutes until cooked through and tender.
  6. Add Cream and Thicken Sauce: Reduce heat to low to prevent breaking the sauce. Stir in 6 tablespoons heavy cream and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and bubbles slightly.
  7. Combine Gnocchi with Sauce: Using a slotted spoon or spider, transfer the cooked gnocchi directly into the sauce. Gently fold to coat all the gnocchi evenly. Serve immediately, optionally topping with cheese of your choice.

Notes

  • Do not chop the mushrooms for a more rustic texture and visual appeal.
  • Keep the heat low when adding cream to prevent the sauce from breaking.
  • Use fresh thyme for best flavor but dried thyme is a suitable substitute.
  • If the gnocchi finishes cooking before the sauce, drain and set aside until ready to combine.
  • Serving size is enough for 2 generous portions or 3 smaller servings.
  • Optional garnish: grated Parmesan or Pecorino cheese complements the flavors well.
