Description
This Crispy Roasted Chickpeas recipe is a delicious and healthy snack that combines crunchy roasted chickpeas with flavorful popcorn seasoning. Perfectly baked in the oven until golden and crisp, these chickpeas make a fantastic alternative to traditional chips and are easy to customize with your favorite spices.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 can (19-oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 4 tsp avocado oil
- ½ tsp table salt or fine sea salt, adjust to taste
- Popcorn seasoning powder, to taste (see notes)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Position the oven rack in the middle and preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking pan with aluminum foil, dull side up, and set it aside.
- Dry and Peel Chickpeas: Lay a kitchen towel on a flat surface topped with several paper towels. Spread the chickpeas on top. Use another paper towel to gently roll over the chickpeas to dry them and help remove their skins. Manually remove any visible skins and ensure the chickpeas are completely dry on all sides for maximum crispiness.
- Toss with Oil and Salt: Transfer the dried chickpeas to a large mixing bowl. Add avocado oil and salt, tossing thoroughly to evenly coat each chickpea.
- Arrange and Bake: Spread the chickpeas out evenly on the prepared baking pan without overlapping. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, shaking the pan every 10 minutes to promote even roasting. Remove from the oven when chickpeas are golden brown and crispy.
- Season Chickpeas: Immediately transfer the chickpeas to a clean, dry bowl. Sprinkle with popcorn seasoning powder and toss well to coat evenly. Taste and adjust seasoning or salt as needed.
- Cool and Store: Return the seasoned chickpeas to the lined baking pan to cool undisturbed, ensuring they stay crispy. Let them cool completely to room temperature before storing in an airtight container.
Notes
- Using paper towels to dry and peel chickpeas removes excess moisture and skin, which is key to achieving crispiness.
- Popcorn seasoning can be any favorite flavor blend such as cheddar, ranch, or spicy chili powder.
- Make sure chickpeas are spread in a single layer with no overlap for even baking.
- Storing chickpeas in an airtight container after cooling maintains their crisp texture for several days.
