Description

Dolly’s Chicken and Stuffing Casserole is a comforting and easy-to-make dish combining tender shredded chicken with a creamy soup and sour cream base, topped with a crunchy, buttery stuffing layer. Perfect for a family meal, this casserole bakes to golden perfection with bubbling edges and a rich flavor.

Ingredients

Chicken Mixture

  • 2–3 cups shredded cooked chicken (rotisserie or baked)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth

Stuffing Topping

  • 1 box (6 oz) stuffing mix (traditional or cornbread)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix the Creamy Base: In a large bowl, combine the shredded cooked chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream or mayonnaise, and chicken broth. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
  3. Layer the Casserole: Spread the prepared chicken mixture evenly into the greased baking dish, creating a uniform layer.
  4. Add Stuffing: Prepare the stuffing mix according to the package directions, but use slightly less water than recommended to keep it from becoming soggy. Spoon the prepared stuffing evenly over the chicken mixture. Drizzle the melted butter over the stuffing to help it brown and become crispy.
  5. Bake: Bake the casserole uncovered in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the stuffing is golden brown on top and the edges are bubbling hot.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes to allow it to set and improve texture before serving.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken for convenience and added flavor.
  • May substitute sour cream with mayonnaise as preferred.
  • Use less water when preparing stuffing to avoid soggy topping.
  • Letting the casserole rest after baking helps it to firm up and makes serving easier.
  • This dish is customizable by using different stuffing flavors such as cornbread.
