Description

This Easy Layered Taco Bake is a delicious, crowd-pleasing Mexican-inspired casserole featuring seasoned ground beef, creamy salsa con queso, melted Mexican cheese, and soft flour tortillas layered and baked to perfection. Ready in under an hour, it's the perfect family-friendly meal combining savory flavors with a cheesy finish.

Ingredients

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 3/4 cup water (or as directed on seasoning packet)

Dairy and Cheese

  • 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend (divided use)
  • 1/2 cup salsa con queso

Other

  • 3 (8-inch) flour tortillas (soft taco size)
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Brown the Meat: In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown and crumble 1 pound of ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess grease to keep the dish from becoming too oily.
  2. Season the Meat: Add 1 packet of taco seasoning and 3/4 cup water as called for on the seasoning packet to the cooked beef. Stir well and simmer until the liquid thickens and flavors meld, following the packet instructions.
  3. Combine with Salsa Con Queso: Turn off the heat and stir in 1/2 cup salsa con queso until fully incorporated, creating a creamy and flavorful taco meat filling.
  4. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly spray an 8-inch round baking pan with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  5. Layer the First Tortilla: Place one of the 3 (8-inch) flour tortillas at the bottom of the prepared pan as the base layer.
  6. Add Taco Meat Layer: Spoon approximately one-third of the taco meat mixture evenly over the tortilla layer.
  7. Add Cheese Layer: Sprinkle one-third of the shredded Mexican cheese blend evenly over the meat layer.
  8. Repeat Layers: Add the second tortilla on top of the cheese, then repeat layering with another third of the taco meat mixture followed by another third of the cheese. Place the last tortilla, top with remaining taco meat and cheese.
  9. Bake the Casserole: Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the tortillas are golden brown.
  10. Cool and Serve: Allow the taco bake to cool for a couple of minutes to set. Slice into wedges and serve with your favorite toppings such as sour cream, guacamole, or chopped cilantro.

Notes

  • Salsa con queso can be store-bought or homemade; it adds creamy, cheesy flavor to the taco meat mixture.
  • Use soft flour tortillas to keep the layers tender and easy to cut after baking.
  • You can customize toppings like diced tomatoes, jalapeños, or avocado to suit your taste.
  • This dish reheats well and makes great leftovers for the next day.
