Perfect as a snack or party finger food, they are quickly fried until golden brown and served hot with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
Ingredients
Filling
- 1/3 cup chopped mini pepperoni (or regular sized, minis are thicker)
- 1/4 cup pizza sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, chopped into smaller pieces
Wrapper
- 5 egg roll wrappers, each cut into 4 squares
Other
- 1-2 inches of oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended)
- Additional pizza sauce for dipping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oil - Heat 1 to 2 inches of oil in a pan or deep fryer over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare Wrappers - Cut each egg roll wrapper into 4 equal squares to create smaller wrappers for the pizza rolls.
- Chop Cheese - Chop shredded mozzarella cheese into smaller pieces to help with even distribution inside the rolls.
- Mix Filling - In a bowl, combine chopped pepperoni, pizza sauce, and chopped mozzarella cheese. Stir until well mixed.
- Assemble Rolls - Place a heaping teaspoonful of the filling onto the left center side of each wrapper square, leaving about 1/2 inch space above and below the filling.
- Seal Edges - Lightly wet the edges of the wrapper with water using your finger to help seal.
- Roll Up - Gently roll the wrapper over the filling and press above and below the filling to seal the edges securely.
- Fold Seals - Wet the top and bottom edges again and gently fold each edge up to create a small seal, ensuring the rolls are tightly sealed to prevent bursting during frying.
- Fry Pizza Rolls - Carefully place about 4 rolls into the preheated oil at a time. Fry for about 1 to 2 minutes or until the rolls puff up and turn a golden brown color.
- Drain - Remove the cooked pizza rolls from oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve - Serve the hot pizza rolls with extra pizza sauce on the side for dipping, if desired.
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature remains steady at around 350°F to prevent greasy or undercooked rolls.
- Do not overfill the rolls as this may cause them to burst during frying.
- Use mini pepperoni for a better texture; larger slices can be chopped smaller if needed.
- Wrap edges must be sealed tightly; using water to moisten edges helps keep them closed.
- Drain oil well on paper towels before serving to keep rolls crispy.
- For a lower fat version, consider baking or air frying the rolls, but frying yields the crispiest texture.
