Description

These festive Meringue Christmas Trees are delicate, airy treats perfect for holiday celebrations. Made by whipping egg whites into stiff peaks and sweetening with sugar, then tinted green and decorated with sprinkles, they create a beautiful, light dessert that is both visually stunning and delicious.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 large egg whites (room temperature)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 100 g granulated sugar
  • Green gel food colouring
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside to prepare for baking the meringues.
  2. Beat Egg Whites and Cream of Tartar: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment to beat the egg whites along with the cream of tartar on medium speed until the mixture is frothy and resembles cappuccino foam.
  3. Incorporate Sugar Gradually: Add the granulated sugar one spoonful at a time, mixing well after each addition to ensure the sugar dissolves completely. Continue beating until stiffness forms stiff peaks that hold their shape firmly.
  4. Add Colour: Add a few drops of green gel food colouring to the meringue and mix gently but thoroughly until the colour is evenly distributed.
  5. Prepare Piping Bag: Transfer the meringue mixture into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip to create the Christmas tree shape.
  6. Pipe Meringue Trees: Pipe three dollops of meringue for each tree, stacking them with the largest dollop at the bottom, a medium one in the middle, and the smallest on top, forming a tiered Christmas tree shape. Decorate each with sprinkles immediately while meringue is still wet.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the meringues have dried out on the sides and the bottoms peel cleanly from the parchment paper.
  8. Cool: Turn off the oven and leave the meringues inside to cool completely overnight, or alternatively, crack the oven door open and let them cool inside for about 1 hour before storing.

Notes

  • Ensure the egg whites are at room temperature for better volume when whipped.
  • Add sugar gradually and beat thoroughly between additions for stable stiff peaks.
  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant color without affecting the meringue consistency.
  • Store meringues in an airtight container to keep them crisp.
  • Do not open the oven door during baking to prevent cracking before the drying process completes.
