Description

This Non-Alcoholic Mulled Wine is a warm, cozy beverage perfect for chilly evenings and festive gatherings. Made with cranberry juice, fresh oranges, and aromatic spices like cinnamon, star anise, cloves, and nutmeg, it delivers all the comforting flavors of traditional mulled wine without the alcohol. Easy to prepare on the stovetop or in a slow cooker, this 4-serving drink infuses fragrant spices over time for a rich, inviting taste.

Ingredients

Fruits

  • 2 small oranges (1 sliced thinly, 1 juiced)
  • Handful of cranberries (fresh or frozen, optional)

Liquids

  • 4 cups (1 liter) cranberry juice

Spices

  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 star anise
  • 4 whole cloves
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oranges: Cut one orange into thin slices and squeeze the juice from the other orange. For organic oranges, this step is straightforward. For regular oranges, soak them in hot water for 5-10 minutes and rinse thoroughly to remove any wax or pesticide residues before slicing and juicing.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Place the orange slices, orange juice, cranberry juice, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, nutmeg, and optionally cranberries into a pot or slow cooker.
  3. Simmer on Stovetop: If using a stovetop, simmer the mixture gently over low heat for 20 minutes. For a more intense spiced flavor, simmer it longer or turn off the heat and allow it to infuse for up to an hour before serving.
  4. Slow Cooker Option: If using a slow cooker, cover with a lid and cook on LOW for 1.5 hours. After that, keep it on WARM until ready to serve. This method allows the flavors to meld beautifully over a longer period.
  5. Serve Warm: Once infused, pour the mulled wine into mugs or heatproof glasses, adding a few orange slices or cranberries as garnish if desired. Enjoy this comforting drink warm.

Notes

  • Organic oranges are preferred to avoid pesticide residues; if using regular oranges, soak and rinse thoroughly as described.
  • Simmering longer or allowing the mulled wine to infuse off heat enhances the spiced flavors.
  • Cranberries are optional but add a festive touch and additional tartness.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled or halved depending on serving needs.
