Description

This one-pot spaghetti recipe is a convenient and flavorful dinner option, perfect for busy weeknights. Ground beef is cooked with onions and garlic, then simmered with a tomato-based sauce and uncooked spaghetti, allowing the pasta to absorb all the rich flavors. Topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh Italian parsley, this hearty meal satisfies while saving you time on cleanup.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 (8-oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 3 cups tomato juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. granulated sugar
  • 2 to 3 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • Dash of pepper

Pasta and Garnish

  • 1/2 (16-oz.) package spaghetti, uncooked
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
  • Fresh Italian parsley sprigs, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook ground beef, onion, and garlic: In a Dutch oven over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic together. Stir frequently, breaking up the beef until it is browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat carefully, then return the beef mixture to the pan.
  2. Add sauce ingredients and simmer: Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato juice, water, salt, granulated sugar, chili powder, dried oregano, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer, stirring often to prevent sticking, for 30 minutes to develop the flavors.
  3. Add spaghetti and cook until tender: Add the uncooked spaghetti directly into the simmering sauce. Cover the Dutch oven again and continue to simmer, stirring frequently to separate the pasta and avoid sticking, for about 20 minutes or until the spaghetti is tender and fully cooked.
  4. Serve: Once the pasta is tender, serve the spaghetti hot, topped with a generous sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese and fresh sprigs of Italian parsley for garnish, if desired.

Notes

  • Use a Dutch oven or a heavy-bottomed pot to evenly cook and simmer the ingredients.
  • Stir the pasta frequently while cooking to prevent clumping.
  • Adjust chili powder to your preferred spice level.
  • For a lighter version, use lean ground beef or substitute with ground turkey.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
