Description

This Spaghetti Stuffed Garlic Bread is a delicious fusion of classic Italian flavors and comforting bread. It features hollowed-out French bread filled with savory spaghetti mixed with Italian sausage and marinara sauce, topped with garlic butter and gooey melted mozzarella. Perfect for a hearty family meal or a crowd-pleasing appetizer, this recipe combines the best of pasta and garlic bread in one irresistible dish.

Ingredients

Bread and Garlic Butter

  • 2 (16-ounce) loaves French bread
  • 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

Spaghetti Filling

  • 8 ounces spaghetti, cooked and drained
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, casing removed
  • Olive oil, as needed
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 3 tablespoons fresh parsley or basil, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the garlic bread and stuffed spaghetti.
  2. Cook Pasta: Prepare the spaghetti by cooking it according to the package instructions. Drain it well and set aside for later use.
  3. Brown Sausage: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown and crumble the Italian sausage until fully cooked and no pink remains. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat, then set aside.
  4. Prepare Sauce: Remove all but 2 tablespoons of fat from the skillet; add olive oil if necessary to make up the difference. Reduce heat to medium-low, and add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until soft, approximately 5 minutes. Stir in Italian seasoning and pour in marinara sauce. Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes to blend flavors.
  5. Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked spaghetti and browned sausage to the sauce mixture in the skillet. Toss well to evenly coat the pasta with the sauce.
  6. Make Garlic Butter Spread: In a small bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning until smooth and fully combined.
  7. Prepare Bread: Slice each French bread loaf in half lengthwise and hollow out most of the inner bread, leaving about a 1/2 inch border around the edges.
  8. Apply Garlic Butter: Spread half of the garlic butter mixture evenly onto each hollowed half of the bread. Place the buttered bread halves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven until toasted and lightly golden.
  9. Assemble Stuffed Bread: Divide the spaghetti mixture evenly between the two toasted bread halves, spreading it generously. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella on top of each half.
  10. Bake: Return the assembled bread to the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the spaghetti is heated through and the mozzarella is melted and golden brown.
  11. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley or basil. Cut into individual slices using a serrated knife and serve while hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute Italian sausage with ground beef or turkey for a different flavor profile.
  • Use gluten-free bread and pasta to make this recipe gluten free.
  • For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • Leftover stuffed bread can be reheated in the oven to retain crispiness.
  • Fresh herbs like basil or oregano can be added on top before serving for extra aroma.
