Ingredients
Chicken Wings
- 3 lbs. chicken wings (drums and wingettes) – approximately 12 wings and 12 drums
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
Sticky Honey Garlic Sauce
- 1/2 cup honey (153g)
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 Tbsp. coconut aminos (30g)
- 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes (optional, but recommended)
Thickening Mixture
- 1/4 Tbsp. arrowroot powder
- 1 Tbsp. water
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the wings.
- Prepare Chicken Wings: If your wings are not pre-cut, pat them dry with paper towels and carefully separate each wing into drumette and wingette by cutting at the joint, discarding the tip.
- Season Wings: Pat the separated wings dry again and season generously with salt and pepper on all sides.
- Brown the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add the chicken wings in a single layer and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes.
- Mix the Sauce: While the wings are browning, combine honey, minced garlic, coconut aminos, apple cider vinegar, and optional red pepper flakes in a bowl until well mixed.
- Coat Wings with Sauce: Once the wings are browned, pour the honey garlic sauce over them in the skillet and toss to coat evenly. The sauce will be thin but will thicken during baking.
- Bake the Chicken: Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Remove and stir the wings in the sauce, then return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes or until the wings are fully cooked through and the sauce is bubbling.
- Thicken the Sauce: Remove the skillet from the oven and take out the wings. Place the skillet on the stovetop over medium-high heat and bring the remaining sauce to a boil. Whisk in the arrowroot powder mixed with water and cook until the sauce thickens.
- Coat the Wings with Thickened Sauce: Return the baked wings to the skillet and toss thoroughly in the thickened sauce. Remove the wings from the skillet and drizzle any extra sauce over them.
- Serve & Enjoy: Garnish with additional red pepper flakes if desired and serve warm. These wings are delicious on their own or paired with celery, carrot sticks, and dressings like ranch or blue cheese.
Notes
- For extra crispy wings, pat them very dry before browning and baking.
- Red pepper flakes add a gentle heat but can be omitted for milder taste.
- Coconut aminos can be substituted with low sodium soy sauce for similar flavor.
- Serve with fresh celery and carrot sticks for a classic wing accompaniment.
- Leftover wings can be reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
