Ingredients
Honey Mustard Sauce
- 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp Honey
- 2 tsp Apple cider vinegar
- Pinch of salt
Sandwich
- 4 slices Sourdough bread (toasted)
- 2 tbsp Unsalted butter (melted)
- 8 oz Thinly sliced turkey breast
- 6 slices Provolone cheese
- 1 Heirloom tomato (sliced 1/4" thick)
- 1 Ripe avocado (sliced)
- Handful of favorite greens and sprouts
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Make Honey Mustard Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, honey, and apple cider vinegar. Stir well to integrate all ingredients evenly. Season with a pinch of salt and refrigerate until ready to use to allow flavors to meld.
- Toast the Bread: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the melted unsalted butter. Once the butter is hot, add the sourdough bread slices and toast both sides until the bread is golden brown and slightly crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Spread a generous layer of the prepared honey mustard sauce on each slice of toasted bread. Place slices of provolone cheese on one side of the bread. Then layer the thinly sliced turkey breast over the cheese, followed by the heirloom tomato slices and avocado slices. Season both tomatoes and avocado with salt and pepper to enhance their natural flavors.
- Add Greens and Final Touches: Top the sandwich with your choice of fresh greens and sprouts for added texture and freshness. Optionally drizzle extra honey mustard sauce over the greens before closing the sandwich.
- Serve: Close the sandwich with the other slice of bread, press gently to set the layers together, and use a serrated knife to carefully cut the sandwich in half. Serve immediately while the bread is warm and the cheese is slightly melted.
Notes
- For even better flavor, let the honey mustard sauce chill for at least 15 minutes before assembling the sandwich.
- You can substitute sourdough with whole wheat or multigrain bread for a different texture and flavor profile.
- This sandwich can be made vegetarian by omitting the turkey and adding extra cheese or grilled vegetables.
- To make avocado slices easier to cut, slightly chill the avocado before slicing.
- Use ripe, soft avocado for a creamy texture, but ensure it’s not overly mushy.
