Description

This Viral Saucy Mongolian Noodles recipe features tender linguine noodles coated in a rich, savory, and slightly spicy beef sauce bursting with flavors from garlic, ginger, soy, and hoisin. Ready in just 15 minutes, it's a quick and satisfying meal perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • ¾ Pounds Linguine (gluten-free recommended)

Sauce and Beef

  • 2 Teaspoons Avocado Oil
  • 1 Pound Lean Ground Beef
  • 4 Cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Ginger, minced
  • 2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup
  • ⅓ Cup Dark Soy Sauce (or low sodium soy sauce or tamari)
  • ¼ Cup Hoisin Sauce
  • ½ Cup Beef Broth
  • 1 Teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (adjust to taste)

Thickener

  • 1 Tablespoon arrowroot starch (or cornstarch or tapioca)
  • 3 Tablespoons Water

Garnish

  • 6 Green Onions, chopped
  • Chili Crisp, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Cook the linguine: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the linguine and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Drain the noodles and set them aside.
  2. Prepare the beef and sauce: Heat the avocado oil in a large pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the ground beef and break it apart using a spoon or spatula. Cook until the beef is almost fully cooked, then add the minced garlic, fresh ginger, maple syrup, dark soy sauce, hoisin sauce, beef broth, and crushed red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
  3. Make the slurry and thicken the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the arrowroot starch and water until smooth. Pour this slurry into the pan with the beef mixture and stir constantly. Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens and develops a glossy finish.
  4. Toss linguine in sauce: Add the cooked linguine directly to the pan with the thickened beef sauce. Toss everything thoroughly so the noodles are fully coated with the savory sauce.
  5. Serve: Plate the saucy Mongolian noodles hot, garnished generously with chopped green onions and a drizzle of chili crisp to add an extra kick of flavor. Enjoy your meal!

Notes

  • Use gluten-free linguine for a gluten-free version.
  • Adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes according to your preferred spice level.
  • The arrowroot slurry thickens the sauce without altering its flavor.
  • Maple syrup adds a subtle sweetness balancing the saltiness and heat.
  • Chili crisp provides a delicious crunchy texture and spicy flavor but can be omitted for less heat.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with plant-based ground meat or sautéed mushrooms and use vegetable broth instead of beef broth.
