Description
This quick and easy White Pizza Sauce is a creamy, flavorful alternative to traditional tomato sauce. Made with butter, flour, milk, garlic, and Parmesan cheese, it provides a rich and smooth base perfect for white pizzas or as a versatile sauce for various dishes.
Ingredients
White Pizza Sauce Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cup milk (2% or whole milk)
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 2 garlic cloves (pressed or finely grated)
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (shredded)
Instructions
- Melt Butter and Make Roux: Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the all-purpose flour and continue whisking constantly for 1-2 minutes to cook the flour without browning it.
- Add Milk and Thicken: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Keep whisking until the mixture becomes smooth, thickened, and bubbly.
- Season the Sauce: Whisk in the sea salt, black pepper, and pressed garlic cloves, blending the flavors evenly throughout the sauce.
- Incorporate Parmesan Cheese: Add the shredded Parmesan cheese and whisk for another 30 seconds. Remove the sauce from heat and continue whisking gently until the cheese fully melts and the sauce becomes smooth. Avoid boiling the sauce after adding the cheese to prevent curdling.
- Cool and Store: Allow the sauce to cool before using it for pizza. Once cooled, cover and refrigerate the sauce for up to 5 days.
Notes
- Do not let the flour brown while making the roux; keep whisking constantly.
- Use 2% or whole milk for best creaminess.
- Do not boil the sauce after adding Parmesan cheese to avoid curdling.
- This sauce can be refrigerated for up to 5 days in a covered container.
- Pressing or finely grating the garlic ensures it blends smoothly into the sauce.
